The brief was to create a contemporary extension that complemented the existing property while maximising natural light and creating a seamless transition between inside and out.

The result is a beautifully proportioned orangery that feels both luxurious and inviting, providing a versatile living space that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The design

A defining feature of the extension is the expansive aluminium sliding doors and matching aluminium windows, which flood the room with daylight and create uninterrupted views across the landscaped garden.

When fully opened, the sliding doors remove the boundary between the interior and exterior, allowing family and guests to move effortlessly from the living area onto the terrace.

Whether hosting summer gatherings, family celebrations or simply enjoying a quiet morning coffee, the space embraces the very best of indoor-outdoor living.

To ensure the extension blended naturally with the original house, timber cladding was selected for the fascia and corner posts.

The warm tones of the timber soften the contemporary glazing while complementing the home’s existing exterior, creating a design that feels both modern and timeless.

This careful balance of natural materials and sleek architectural detailing allows the orangery to sit comfortably within its surroundings.

Comfort and natural light

Above, two impressive roof lanterns become the centrepiece of the room, drawing daylight deep into the living space and creating a wonderful sense of openness.

Each lantern is fitted with semi-automatic opening vents, providing effective natural ventilation and helping to maintain a comfortable environment throughout the seasons.

Combined with the extensive glazing, the lanterns create a bright, airy atmosphere from morning through to evening.

Internally, the generous open-plan layout offers exceptional flexibility, comfortably accommodating both relaxed seating and entertaining areas.

The abundance of natural light, combined with panoramic garden views, makes the orangery feel like an extension of the landscape itself.
