The brief
This elegant hardwood orangery was designed and built by Goodwood Orangeries for a beautiful period home in Hampshire.
Measuring approximately 4.5m x 3.5m, the extension was created to provide the homeowners with a dedicated space to relax, read and enjoy a peaceful retreat away from the busier areas of the house.
Positioned at the rear of the property, the orangery is accessed from the house through a traditional timber door, creating a distinct yet complementary room that feels both connected to and separate from the main house. T
he result is a versatile living space that offers a sense of calm and privacy throughout the year.
The design
Constructed in painted hardwood and finished in a soft cream colour, the orangery has been carefully detailed to complement the character of the existing property.
The glazing bar arrangement, classical pilasters and bespoke fascia design were all tailored to reflect the architectural language of the house, ensuring the extension sits naturally within its surroundings.
The design centres around a substantial glazed lantern roof, which draws daylight deep into the room and creates a wonderfully bright interior.
Two decorative chandeliers are suspended from bespoke bosses along the lantern ridge, providing an elegant focal point and enhancing the room’s traditional character.
Together, the lantern and chandeliers create a space that feels both refined and welcoming, day and night.
Comfort and natural light
Full-height glazing on all sides maximises natural light and provides uninterrupted views across the property’s beautifully landscaped gardens.
Whether seated with a book, enjoying a morning coffee or simply taking a moment to unwind, the homeowners can appreciate the changing seasons from the comfort of a light-filled interior.
Internally, the orangery has been furnished as a comfortable reading and relaxation room, making the most of its peaceful atmosphere and abundance of natural light.
